Airbnb App Now Features WiFi Speed Test
04 Aug 2021
As more businesses focus on enhancing their working conditions amid the post-Covid-19 crisis, the possibility to reliably access the Internet from anywhere is becoming paramount. In the company’s further attempts to attract remote workers, Airbnb has recently rolled out an in-app WiFi speed test feature for their hosts in the US (it will become available throughout the world in the coming weeks). Keep reading if you’re curious to know the details.
Hosts have long had the possibility to manually add WiFi speed data to their listings, right after they conduct tests under their own stream. The newly introduced feature, however, allows them to measure speeds without closing the application. The tool allows rental owners to reveal WiFi speed test results in their listings, thus preventing consumers from booking a stay in a WiFi blind spot. The feature relies on M-Lab's open-source software provided to Airbnb for building the tool.
Overall, the in-app WiFi speed test tool is pretty straightforward. Just find the ‘Amenities’ section of a listing, then head to ‘Popular,’ ‘Edit,’ ‘WiFi,’ then hit ‘Add your WiFi speed.’ Prior to launching the test, ensure your device is where your guests are more likely to need WiFi. Also, don’t forget to deactivate any potential data streaming software. Speeds that are higher than 7 Mb/s are considered to be acceptable by Airbnb.
Upon completing the WiFi speed test, the owners of Airbnb rentals get to share the results in their listings straight from the Airbnb app. Those results are sure to offer the Internet-needy renters much-needed comfort. Furthermore, the results will also be listed within M-Lab’s publicly available directory of Internet performance data. Have anything to say on the topic?
