First Notable Facebook Decrease in Activity Image

Facebook has seen the first decrease in its usage, counting 1.93 billion daily active and 2.91 million monthly active users in the fourth-quarter results. It is surprising to see such numbers from the developers, as we all are used to the big statistics of the app.

Even though the drop is in half a million in daily activity, it is still the first time in Facebook history when the app meets a decrease in usage since its launch. The data might seem insignificant in numbers compared to the whole attention the app gets, but it has already started some negative commotion on the market.

Facebook has endured a 20% loss in stock price, which has also affected Meta’s market position and reduced its capital by $200 billion. It is quite a big hit for the parent company.

These statistics have been noted only in Facebook’s case, other apps that belong to Meta, for example, Instagram and WhatsApp, seem to thrive and rise in active numbers. The developers have claimed to spectate 2.82 billion in daily activity and 3.59 billion monthly.

TikTok has been an active rival of the app for the past two years. The video platform keeps growing in numbers, surpassing its neighbors with great speed. ByteDance is trying to expand the ad flow to the Western community, so TikTok reaches even more success.

Instagram has launched its Reels trying to battle the video format of TikTok, and even though it brought more attention to the app, still the most popular content in that feature is getting there from TikTok re-uploads.

Facebook has reduced its usage only to a messenger app. Users don’t actively engage in the news hub as it was before. This decrease might be one of the reasons Meta has set its goals for metaverse, leaving Instagram as the main income source.
