Harry Potter Games Reach $1B In Revenue Image

The Harry Potter saga appears inexhaustible. Though the story of the boy who survived is already told, the Fantastic Beasts prequels form their own franchise, and mobile games thrive as well. And now the games seem the biggest driver for the franchise, as in 2022 their combined revenue has reached the magic $1 billion.

Among the games, the most popular (and profitable) is the mobile RPG named Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery. Set before the events of the saga, this game is quite a classical RPG where you customize your character, choose your house, and earn points for it in missions that involve both learning and practical magic. This mobile game has brought over $400M since its launch.

Its closest rival is Harry Potter: Magic Awakened. This is even more impressive as this game is exclusive for China, Taiwan, Macau, and Hong Kong. The revenue it has brought is about $358M, 91% of it coming from China. Well, though Mrs. Rowling never mentioned Chinese wizardry schools in her books, she may reconsider it in potential sequels. Then, Harry Potter: Puzzles & Spells by Zinga has gained about $218M. This is a highly casual game, but it’s Hogwarts-themed, so it qualifies. One doesn’t have to be a Harry Potter fan to enjoy it.

The most recent of the games, Harry Potter: Wizards Unite by Niantic, so far settles for $39.6. Well, there is only so much location-based AR games can earn, and Wizards Unite has to compete with the undisputable kings of the genre, Pokémon Go and Ingress. Still, this game has made quite a reasonable amount of money and attracted millions of players, so it’s here to stay.

Which Harry Potter-themed mobile game is your favorite? How much money are you ready to spend on in-game purchases? Are you a Harry Potter fan in general, or do you just like these games? We’d like to read your response in the comments!
