Instagram Rolls out Anti-abuse Functionality Image

If you’re frequently facing hate speech and trolling on Instagram, this post is for you. The team behind the photo-sharing app is currently working on improving the tools that aid its users in blocking the accounts of abusive trolls. As a matter of fact, aside from blocking a single abuser’s account, you can now choose to block any accounts this person already has or may create in the future. Keep reading for more details about other IG anti-abuse features.

In addition to the aforementioned anti-abuse enhancements, Instagram has also upgraded its ‘Hidden Words’ functionality. The tool allows users to avoid viewing potentially offensive content. From now on, the feature has been transferred to Stories and will by default camouflage any abusive reactions. Furthermore, the aforementioned tool is now capable of spotting purposeful typos in the abusive words.

In addition to this, Instagram is polishing ‘nudges’ initially created to protect authors from bullying. In accordance with the Meta Platforms-owned company’s reports, IG will use ‘nudges’ to warn its users about the need to use respectful language when commenting or sending others DMs.

As you can see, the picture-sharing app has been doubling down on preventing abusive language and digital trolling among its users. All in all, social media does promise everyone a voice, and a means to be heard. However, it looks like some of us will have to accept that certain opinions are not worthy of that opportunity.

So, do you think the anti-abuse upgrade will force people to rethink their offensive comments and ultimately bring positive results? Have you encountered many trolls on Instagram? Do you use offensive language when using the app? You’re welcome to share your thoughts on the topic in the comment section below. Your opinion is highly valued here.
