New Changes to Apple Subscriptions
25 May 2022
Apple is making changes to the subscription policy so that users can now easily navigate all of their services. Now, developers can charge increased prices atomically with the user’s agreement. It might be beneficial for those who accidentally lose their subscription due to missed opt-in messages. The company also hopes that it will influence the developers who have been targeting this part of the market. Some news says that trials for this update have already been done.
The announcement stated that Apple is on the move to make every process regarding pricing, canceling, or managing subscriptions for users clear. Currently, you need to manually agree to any changes in price when you see a notification in your app or email. When the deadline is missed, the subscription will be automatically canceled. Your next step should be resubscribing to the service from your Apple device.
In the update, users will be notified beforehand about the increase in prices with an email, push notification, and in-app message. That way, you can always know what is going on with your subscription plan. Further, users will get information about managing and canceling their service privileges.
Of course, there are some rules to it, so you are aware of the rightfulness in any price changes. The change in price should not be regulated more than once a year. In addition, the increase should not be more than $5 and 50 percent of a monthly subscription price or $50 and 50 percent of an annual price. And lastly, it needs to follow the local law. It is yet unknown if the changes will be applied worldwide or only in the Indian region.
