The Skype messenger gets a new design on iOS and Mac. Let’s see what’s new about the update.

Skype is getting a comprehensive update, regarding its functionality and looks. To quote the team in charge, this is an "improved, faster, reliable, and super modern-looking Skype"

Via the corporate blog, Microsoft claims that it's redesigning and modernizing "the most important part”. We’re talking about the main window, in which all calls take place, dubbed “call stage”. It will see the new design, visual themes, ergonomics, and so on. In other words, a bunch of re-envisioned bells and whistles to make the Skype calls more engaging.

Callers would now be able to see themselves during a live convo. With a new "together" feature, everybody can show up in this conversational grid, regardless of whether they're sharing video or not. The audio-only callers will get their special place too. For them, the app has prepared specific backgrounds to distinguish them from the rest of the chatters.

Meet Now is another know-how that’ll bring a fresh vibe to the app. With it, you don’t have to download Skype and fiddle with its settings. Instead, you can generate a link quickly, and invite others to join the conversation. The feature will be available across all popular browsers, with the exception of Tor, maybe.

An absolute center of attention in the update is Skype Universal Translator. As the company states, callers from different countries will be able to talk and understand each other, all thanks to the feature. And the final statement will surely melt every Star Trek fans’ hearts: “Low-cost calls with a real-time translator on top, we love bringing that science fiction from Star Trek to reality.”

Skype seems to go through a renaissance phase. Do you think it has a chance to become as popular as Telegram or WhatsApp? Let us know in the comments!
