Next Week, Microsoft May Launch Cloud Windows PC Image

If you take a look at the schedule of the Inspire conference by Microsoft, you may notice one curious placeholder for one session. Simply saying “Microsoft cloud solution for enabling hybrid work”, it may mean that the PC does not stay at your desk anymore. Some device has to stand there, but the actual Windows PC will be hidden in Microsoft clouds.

The name of the speaker is just as telltale. No other but Scott Manchester will conduct the conference. He is responsible for cloud computing at Microsoft, so the subject of the conference is to be guessed from this. Given how much attention Redmond has been paying to cloud everything, from gaming to office apps, it’s logical to assume Microsoft may finally make its cloud PC official.

This may be one of the reasons Office 365 was rebranded into Microsoft 365. The updated service will provide more than it does now. Along with Microsoft Office, Teams, OneDrive space, and enhanced mail and security features, Microsoft 365 now may include Windows 365 into its business plans. Maybe the company will offer cloud PCs for personal use, but it seems to make little sense.

On the contrary, when it comes to business, a company may easily have a necessary number of cloud computers running Windows 10/11 and all the necessary software. Data exchange between them will be instant. Employees will be able to access it remotely, regardless of the hardware and platforms they actually use. It’s a step up in creating corporate workspaces with impressive performance and security by design.

As for performance, remote computers will probably have varying drive space, CPU, GPU, and other virtual devices, as well as various versions of Windows and other software. According to some rumors, it will only take a screen and an input device to work with it. The session will show, though, what it’s about.
