Nintendo Switch Sports to Come: What to Expect
06 Apr 2022
If you remember Wii Sports as one of the best things that ever happened to the gaming industry, Nintendo has some good news for you. In February, it announced a new incarnation of it, predictably named Nintendo Switch Sports. And now we have a more detailed announce of what to anticipate when it’s finally released.
Nintendo Switch Sports will include six sports, namely Tennis, Bowling, Soccer (or European football), Badminton, Volleyball, and Chambara. If you have never heard about the latter, it’s a samurai style of sword fighting that got massively popularized in Japanese cinema. Other sports are quite popular and need less explanations, but Nintendo still adds some modifications that make these games more than mere simulators.
In the video released on April 3, Nintendo explains the mechanic for each sports included. There are unique ones for each. What they all have in common is not being just about pressing buttons: you’ll need to physically move with Joy-Cons in your hands, emulating the real sports mechanics. The most impressive one, of course, is Soccer. You’ll need the physical version of the game to fully appreciate it because it comes with a foot strap for using a controller with your leg. But others are at least amusing too.
In addition, each game is diverging from its traditional rules for better playability on Switch. In Bowling, for example, extra obstacles may randomly appear. In Chambara, you can choose between one and two swords and learn various techniques. Tennis seems the most obvious of them all, but it still has a lot to learn.
It’s not real sports, of course, but it’s the type of a video game that makes you sweat, especially if you compete with friends on the same console. Are you already waiting for Nintendo Switch Sports? If so, which looks the most interesting? Share your opinion with us in the comments if you want!
