TikTok Now Allows Videos Up to 10 Minutes Long Image

As TikTok started its glorious rise, it only allowed videos 15 seconds long. Then it grew up to 1 minute, then to 5 minutes, and now it pushes the limits further. In 2022, the maximum length of a TikTok video will be solid 10 minutes. Unless the platform decides that 10 minutes still aren’t enough.

While 15 seconds is enough to make a short funny video that makes you smile, it takes more if you want to deliver a stronger message. The more diverse videos are available on the platform, the better it is for both creators and marketers in terms of monetization. Still, it’s much shorter than rivals like YouTube offer, so the original concept of TikTok as home to short videos remains unshaken.

As TikTok says, this move will enrich the community and provide more opportunities for creators. A 10-minutes video can be a decent format for short movies, long video clips, or live performance picks. With the advanced tools, TikTok offers, like CapCut video editor and marketing insights, this new format has serious potential. This may attract more creators, including those who have been deterred by the original limitations.

This move is risky because it makes TikTok’s positioning vaguer, given that other video services allowed uploading longer videos long before TikTok. But TikTok already has a one-billion audience, and this is quite a reason for creators to choose this platform. This step is, for example, aimed at an older audience who prefers longer videos. So far, TikTok is often seen as a social media for teenagers, though in reality, it is not so at all. Yet this image, so helpful at the first stages, is now slowing down further advance.

What do you think about 10-minute videos on TikTok? What do you think these videos will be about: music, live recordings, short movies, or what? Would you rather watch these videos on TikTok or on any other platform? Let’s discuss it in the comments!
