WhatsApp Call Links Now up for Grabs
22 Oct 2022
WhatsApp seems to be among those rare projects the team behind which really knows its purpose — and masterfully avoids useless bloatware. But with as widespread as COVID-19-induced video conferencing became, WhatsApp’s laser-like focus on video functionality is inevitable. With that in mind, the popular IM platform is currently test-driving its new Call Links feature. Keep reading for more details about what exactly the feature entails.
From the possibility to transform into a sticker to creating group polls, the instant messaging platform has been launching a treasure trove of new fun and handy features during the past several months. One particularly interesting feature referred to as Call Links which was first introduced by WhatsApp in September is now being made available for wider use.
The Call Links functionality allows you to set up calls by generating direct links and sharing them effortlessly with others. The whole thing makes it easier to start and join calls in just one tap. As a result, your contacts get the possibility to join calls conveniently at their own pace. As of today, the feature is incompatible with the desktop version of WhatsApp. The tool is currently in the process of being rolled out to WhatsApp users at large. As of yet, the feature allows up to 32 users to participate in a call at a time. The link itself is valid for up to 3 months.
Link sharing for calls takes the IM platform a few steps closer to transforming into a full-fledged video conferencing app. All in all, there’s still a long road ahead before WhatsApp achieves this tempting goal.
