Final Fantasy 7 Remake Mod Brings Nostalgia Back
14 Jan 2022
Final Fantasy 7 received a remake version that brings the most modern take on the original game released in 1997. The developers decided not just to update the graphics but to completely rework the game, improving all the aspects of the gameplay. But one developer did not have enough nostalgia, so he created a mod that takes the static camera angles from the retro game to the 2020 remake.
Old Look at New Game
The original version had its specific peculiarity of transmitting the perspective. The camera follows Cloude and captures a certain angle in each of the scenes he moves into. Modern standards have long dictated the free format of the camera, but Final FanTV was able to regain the retro style and unique atmosphere that fans of Final Fantasy 7 enjoyed.
The modder posted a video of his concept on his YouTube channel. The mod is still in development and is temporarily not available for download. As the video progresses, the modder compares scenes from the beginning of the game to show how he retained the originality of the old camera angles in the Remake version. In the first scene, Cloud, along with members of Avalanche's team, is trying to break into the Shinra Mako reactor.
Everything Is in the Community’s Hands
Classical perspectives reveal the scale of the Shinra object with its huge buildings and tiny forests. Moreover, in the video, you can see an example of classical fight scenes in which opponents are on the left side of the screen, and the protagonist attacks and bounces back and forward for each attack. But it’s still not a full-fledged mode.
Final FanTV would like other modders to continue to develop this idea. The editing tools were originally created by Otis_Inf, and everyone is allowed to customize each scene manually.
