Google Will Reduce Performance Reviews for Its Employees
09 May 2022
Performance reviews have been the bane of existence for the employees of Google for a while now. The procedure took place two times a year and required a lot of time, effort, and paperwork. Almost half of the employees of the corporation mentioned that they would rather focus on other tasks than on their performance reviews. For this reason, Google decided to limit performance reviews to just once a year, and also there will be less paperwork involved.
While end-users of Google products may not care how many times a year employees complete their reviews, the decision of Google will directly affect the performance of employees and, hopefully, increase it. Proving that you are worthy to continue working for Google by completing reviews is undoubtedly a stressful and time-consuming process. As actual humans are working for the company, they will now be able to focus more on developing and maintaining Google products.
Google is supposed to switch to the new review system this month and it will be called Googler Reviews and Development (GRAD). According to the available information, employees will still have to provide information on their performance to managers, but this will happen only once a year. The goal of the system is to determine how much impact the employee has in the company and the options include — transformative, outstanding, and not enough impact.
This system is specific to Google and other large companies, such as Microsoft and Amazon use different approaches. Even though there will be only one review a year, Google claims that promotions will still take place twice a year.
What do you think about such reviews? Do you think such systems are necessary? Please, share your opinion in the comments below.
