YouTube Begins Testing Its Super Thanks Feature for Shorts Image

YouTube continues to expand its monetization system and now it seems that creators of Shorts will soon get access to the Super Thanks feature, which is already actively used on longer videos. In addition to the updated ad revenue share system, this donation feature will allow people who enjoy the content of specific creators to reward them and also get highlighted comments during streams.

Both creators and fans benefit from this feature. Viewers have a chance to get noticed and ask questions while creators obviously earn more money on the platform. It is important to note that this feature is available in a number of selected markets and only to creators who have been accepted by the Partner Program of YouTube. There several requirements to join this program. This includes having over 1,000 subscribers and also getting more than 4,000 watch hours in a year.

Those that qualify and have Super Thanks active in their region will now be able to receive donations even if they make Shorts. This feature is currently in its early phase of testing and it’s unclear when it will be rolled out to everyone. Similar to Instagram, YouTube encourages the creation of short videos as TikTok continues to gain more popularity in the world. At the moment, there is no direct monetization program on TikTok, so offering this feature may give a competitive edge to YouTube.

Currently, TikTok has only a ‘Gifts’ donation feature for its most popular creators who have more than 100,000 followers in the app. In such a way, the qualification threshold of YouTube is much lower, and more people will have an opportunity to benefit from it.
